(Indonesian Innovation & Entrepreneurship Bootcamp)
【Background】
Based on the “Letter of Intent on the Global Ecosystem Platform for Entrepreneurial Innovation” signed between Tsinghua University of China and the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of The Republic of Indonesia, the two sides hope to give full play to the synergy of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the new era Bali New Economy Roadmap, carry out in-depth and high-quality cooperation in the field of education and research, and achieve win-win results. To achieve this goal, Tsinghua University will collaborate with various resources to cultivate Indonesian talents in innovation and entrepreneurship, establish a global ecological platform for innovation and entrepreneurship, and contribute to the local development by building an internationally leading center for innovation and entrepreneurship. Both sides are committed to jointly promoting the achievement of sustainable development goals and building a better world.
The Tsinghua Happiness Entrepreneurship Bootcamp (hereinafter referred to as “THE Bootcamp”) is sponsored by Tsinghua University and organized by Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center(hereinafter referred to as “Tsinghua SEA”). The bootcamp draws heavily on the high-quality educational resources of Tsinghua University, while also integrating a diverse range of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem resources from both China and Indonesia. Additionally, we invite academic and industry mentors with extensive experience from both countries to collaborate in teaching. The bootcamp will establish a top-notch platform for innovation and entrepreneurship that integrates theory with practice, under the guidance of mentors, through coursework, resource integration, enterprise research and practical exercises. The objective is to facilitate Indonesian innovators and entrepreneurs in comprehending the crux of business, augmenting their entrepreneurial acumen, innovative mindset, and entrepreneurial competencies, reinforcing managerial proficiency, fostering team leadership skills, and acquiring a profound comprehension and benchmark of information encompassing China's expertise, paradigmatic approach as well as cutting-edge Chinese business technology through building a happy innovation and entrepreneurship learning and exchange platform with the core concept of happiness, harmony and sustainable development. Simultaneously, the bootcamp is dedicated to facilitating local high-quality enterprises in connecting with China's upstream and downstream industries, capital, and market resources, fostering cross-border exchanges and innovative cooperation across multiple domains.

To build a happy entrepreneurial ecosystem: Facilitating the allocation of multiple resources, fostering cross-disciplinary exchanges and cooperation between China and Indonesia, synergizing and integrating available resources, introducing incubators and venture capital, and expediting the growth of student-led projects.
To create a happy learning space: The bootcamp centers around practical application and effective communication. Through entrepreneurial sandbox simulations, guided by professionals, the innovative and entrepreneurial process of forming a team, selecting projects, refining business models, conducting market research, presenting project roadshows and other practical and happy activities are completed. By analyzing blind spots in entrepreneurial projects, high growth potential for enterprises is promoted.
【Objectives】

The bootcamp cultivates the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, stimulates innovative thinking, and enhances various entrepreneurial competencies through learning and training.

Exploring the development and experience of innovation and entrepreneurship in China, the bootcamp provides stronger support for future development cooperation, and having reference ideas for solving the current development challenges of enterprises.

Academic Director
MEI Meng
Professor at Tsinghua University, founder of Tsinghua Science and Technology Park, honorary chairman of TUS Holdings Co., Ltd., and co chairman of Tsinghua Happiness Technology Laboratory. In 1982, Professor Mei graduated from the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University. After graduation, he stayed on campus and served as Director of the Office of the President of Tsinghua University and the Deputy Secretary General of the Tsinghua Education Foundation. In 1994, he was tasked by Tsinghua University to establish Tsinghua Science and Technology Park, and has been engaged in the planning, construction, and management of Tsinghua Science and Technology Park for 22 years since then. In 2016, together with Professor Peng Kaiping from the Department of Psychology at Tsinghua University, they established the world’s first happiness technology laboratory and built platforms with happiness, health, and harmony as the core concepts. As professor at Tsinghua University, Professor Mei collaborated with Professor Gao Jian and Associate Professor Zhang Wei from the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University to offer courses such as “Identification of Entrepreneurship Opportunities and Business Planning” and “Starting a New Enterprise” at Tsinghua University.

Edward Crawley
Ford Chair Professor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, internationally renowned engineering education expert, academician of the American Academy of Engineering, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering of the United Kingdom, academician of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and former dean of the Department of Aerospace of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and executive director of the Cambridge MIT Institute. Professor Crowley has served as Chairman of the NASA Technology and Commercialization Advisory Committee, a member of the NASA Advisory Committee, and a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Space Station Redesign. He has also received the NASA Public Service Medal. He is the founder and co-executive director of the CDIO (Concept-Design Implementation Operate) International Engineering Education Cooperation Organization. CDIO’s talent development model has been adopted by engineering departments in multiple universities around the world. In 2011, Professor Crowley founded Skolkovko College in Russia and served as president for 5 years.
Professor Crowley has profound knowledge in structural dynamics, aeroelasticity, control, and system design, and has a significant influence in the academic community. His research mainly focuses on the algebraic theory of systems and the methods and tools used in the design. Professor Crowley has held many important positions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and NASA, leading and participating in a series of school reforms and large-scale engineering projects. He has rich experience in educational management and social services. The CDIO reform he initiated is an important innovation in the field of engineering education. Professor Crowley is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the British Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). Professor Crowley was appointed as a guest professor at Tsinghua University from 2008 to 2011.
Teaching Faculty
GAO Jian
Professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, Director of the G20 Entrepreneurship Research Center at Tsinghua University. His main courses include Founding New Enterprises, Entrepreneurial Development, Entrepreneurial Investment Management, New Enterprise Incubation and Entrepreneurial Investment, and Corporate Control. His research areas include entrepreneurial capital, entrepreneurship and strategic management, enterprise transformation, entrepreneurial spirit and abilities. His recent research interests cover G20 policies for promoting entrepreneurship and the optimal timing , technology entrepreneurship, brand entrepreneurship, sustainable entrepreneurship, and digital entrepreneurship.
CHAN Weijian
Professor and Associate Dean of the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and Co-Associate Director of the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute, Tsinghua University, China. Prior to joining Tsinghua, he served on the faculty of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Troy, NY. He received the B.E. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, M.E. degree from the Tsinghua University, and Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley, respectively. Dr. Chan has served as the lead editor of the 2017 Winter Simulation Conference, co-editor of the 2015 Winter Simulation Conference, program chair of the 2013 Industrial and System Engineering Research Conference, editor of the IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, and associate editor of the IIE Transactions, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, and Asia-Pacific Journal of Operational Research. In addition, Dr. Chan has served as program committee for a number of international conferences, and panelist for U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), and Macau Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT). He is a member of Macau Science and Technology Innovation Development Committee. His research interests include discrete-event simulation, agent-based simulation, big-data analytics and their applications in social networks, business big-data, service systems, healthcare, transportation, energy markets, and manufacturing.

ZHANG JinSheng
Currently serves as the CEO and President of TusHoldings Co., Ltd. He is also the Deputy Director of Tsinghua Science Park Management Committee, Director of Tsinghua Happiness Technology Laboratory, and Chairman of TusStar. Zhang Jinsheng has been instrumental in building a robust technology innovation service platform and expanding the TusStar network across China, with over 80 incubation bases in 50+ cities. He has also established partnerships with renowned international institutions such as the University of Washington, the University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, and the University of Cambridge.
Under Zhang's leadership, TusStar has managed 10 angel investment funds totaling 2 billion yuan, supporting the growth of numerous early-stage companies, including Zhongwen Online, Haibo Sichuang, LightKAI Intelligent, Wojiemedia, and Zhongde Nohau. Zhang Jinsheng's contributions to the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem have been recognized, receiving accolades such as being named one of the top 30 most active angel investors in China and being honored as a leading figure in innovation and entrepreneurship services by the Zhongguancun Management Committee.
Overall, Zhang Jinsheng's dedication to fostering technological innovation, facilitating university-industry collaborations, and supporting the development of startup talents has made him a prominent figure in China's innovation landscape.
LEI Lin
Dr. Lei is the founding partner of THG Ventures, and formerly served as Vice President of Tsinghua Holdings Co., LTD., President of Tsinghua Asset Management Group, and President of Chengzhi Kerong Holdings Co., LTD. He also served as a director and senior executive of many listed companies and financial platform companies under Tsinghua Holdings, such as Tongfang, Unigroup, Chengzhi, Qidi Holdings, Chinese Online, Zhongrong Life Insurance, Nordisk Fund, etc.
There are currently over 30 funds under his management, with assets totaling more than 50 billion yuan and direct investments in over 100 enterprises. Among the invested enterprises, 33 companies such as Spreadtrum Communications, Sumavision, Chinese online, HIGHLANDER, GigaDevice, Will Semiconductor, Maxscend, WORLDIA, SOLARTRON, Eyebright, XFH Technology Co., Ltd., Allgens and Huaqin Technology Co., Ltd. are listed on NASDAQ and China's Main Board, Growth Enterprise Board (GEB), Science and Technology Innovation Board.
Mr. Lei holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Automation of Tsinghua University and completed his post-doctoral studies at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University. He currently serves as a professor at the School of Economics and Management, acts as an industry tutor for Master of Finance candidates, and is a resident angel investor at the Tsinghua X-LAB Center. He sets up two elective courses for graduate students at the university: "Entrepreneurial Opportunity Identification and Business Plan" (An Excellent Course for Tsinghua University's Postgraduates) and "Starting a New Enterprise" (A Nationally-recognized Excellent Open Online Course). Additionally, he served as an instructor for "Overview of China's Institutional Buyer Investment Industry" (a Financial Practice Course for Master of Finance).

Tsinghua University will provide financial support for this bootcamp and sponsor outstanding local entrepreneurs in Indonesia to participate, covering teaching research and development, learning materials, educational administration affairs, official visits, lunch fees, translation fees etc.

Being an important component of Tsinghua University’s global strategic layout, the Southeast Asia Center was established in October 2018 and held its opening ceremony on November 16, 2022 in Bali, Indonesia. Tsinghua SEA campus in Bali is funded and constructed by the Indonesian UID Public Welfare Foundation. The campus covers an area of 17,000 square meters, and the 5,500 square meters of space in the main building is used by the center, which can accommodate more than 300 people working and studying at the same time. The Southeast Asia Center is based in Indonesia and radiates throughout the entire Southeast Asian region, with extensive connections to Southeast Asian politics, business, universities, academic institutions, and international organizations. With the “Sustainable Development Goals” as the core, it aims to build an innovative ecological platform for academic government enterprise cooperation and sharing.
